Within the home, each space has its function and overall purpose. For example, you will cook food and create delicious meals in the kitchen. In your bedroom, you can rest easy after a long day on a comfortable bed. The bathroom is no different when it comes to having its function and utility.
Unfortunately, some other critters may also try to make your bathroom home. Ants can be drawn to your bathroom for various reasons, which can be annoying. Then, if left to rot, their numbers may grow exponentially.
Use the following tips to locate the ants in your bathroom and remove them swiftly.
Tip #1: Cleaning the Bathroom
One of the biggest hurdles in maintaining a bathroom is keeping it neat. It is pretty easy for the overall space to become dirty for whatever reason. Unfortunately, that is all that ants need to enter inside and make the space their own. As a result, be sure to maintain your bathroom in a consistent period.
Every few days, note what is inside the bathroom and which areas need to be cleaned up. Sanitize all relevant surfaces so that these areas can repel the accumulation of ants. When you keep this consistent, you allow the space to remain free of germs and bacteria.
More importantly, you have a bathroom that is free of all critters! With basic pest control measures put in place, you’ll not only maintain cleanliness but also keep those unwanted guests at bay.
Tip #2: Trash
Ants are naturally drawn to sustenance sources or things they could use for their nesting. If they happen to enter your bathroom, they will undoubtedly try to crawl into your trash can. Since you cannot be sure what is inside your trash after a while, it may be an oversight.
For example, you may have accidentally put food scraps inside the bathroom trash instead of recycling. Ants will take advantage of this to find sustenance for their needs. Always be sure to put food scraps and leftovers into their designated trash. That way, you prevent them and other bugs from accessing your bathroom.
Tip #3: Water Leaks
A huge problem that usually occurs in the bathroom is a leak. The pipes connecting your toilet, sink, and shower system can be interconnected or structured separately. Whatever the case may be, over time, there may be leaks emanating from the pipes. If these systems break down, you will have to take prompt action.
That is largely because ants are drawn to sources of still water. If they drip slowly, leaks will inevitably create water puddles in and around the premises. Be sure to act on this quickly to stop ants from coming inside. If the issue is more complex to get around, you will need to call in a reputable plumber to resolve it.
Tip #4: Gaps
No matter what living arrangement you have, at some point, you will find yourself dealing with a gap. These gaps could come in the form of a broken seal near the wall or a crack near your bathroom’s sink. In either situation, you must ensure they are fixed accordingly.
Ants can have relatively easy access to your interiors once these gaps have been established. If the gap is simple enough, you only need some simple patchwork to fix the area. Or, should it be more difficult, you will have to call in a professional. The latter is the recommended solution to prevent ants from accessing the bathroom!
Tip #5: Ant Spray
A common, yet more direct, means of eliminating ants in your bathroom involves an ant killer. These products are comprised of various chemicals, all of which can be fatal to ants. If you see ants manifesting within your bathroom, apply the product to the ants from a few feet away. Once they have been eliminated, clean and sanitize the area accordingly.
Tip #6: Clogged Drains
Similar to the bathroom pipes not working, you may also have to inspect the drain. Drains could become clogged for various reasons, requiring the right action. Call a plumber if you cannot manually clean out the clog. They will be able to handle the issue correctly.
Tip #7: White Vinegar
You’d be surprised how effective a solution of white vinegar is. Apply some of the vinegar to some water, and wipe down all your commonly-used surfaces. The chemicals found in white vinegar can easily become fatal for ants to be around. After a while, you will find little to no presence of them in the bathroom!
