DIY Wedding Guest Book

Create your own simple and sweet DIY Wedding Guest Book – the perfect keepsake for any couple on their wedding day.

DIY Wedding Guest Book

When I found out two friends of mine were getting married, I was thrilled. But when the bride-to-be asked me to make the guest book for her wedding I was beyond ecstatic - and she gave me free reign on the design! I had a few different ideas of how I could create their guest book, but kept coming back to using chipboard. I asked the bride for her wedding colours and textures and started creating my own DIY Wedding Guest Book (and pen!).

What I used:

Guest Book

Pen

  • One black, felt-tipped pen
  • Thin twine
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scrapbooking paper to create a flower
  • Thin white ribbon

Before starting the guest book, I went through the couple’s engagement pictures and chose 10 of my favourite, and printed them at Blacks in black and white. I painted ‘i do’ chipboard letters with Martha Stewart’s ‘Ballet Slippers’ paint and set them aside to dry. I adhered grey scrapbooking paper to the cover and also set aside to dry. In the meantime, I created a mini rosette – see The Idea Room for their tutorial – using tissue paper. Once everything was dry, I chose my personal favourite picture of the couple, a few pearl embellishments and some pretty ivory lace, played around with a few different templates, and once happy, adhered everything to the chipboard.

For the first page of the guest book I adhered the couple’s wedding invitation to the chipboard – a great way to keep keep their wedding memorabilia in one place!

The chipboard book was 16 pages (8 back and front), so I chose grey for every right hand page, and then alternated between pink and ivory for the left hand pages. Once each paper was adhered to the chipboard, I used the end of a pen to pierce through the binder ring holes, carefully cut around the edges and then adhered the photos. On every grey page, I added a picture of the couple (cutting them to smaller sizes) and adhered them to either pink or white scrapbook paper.

I also added in plain white letter sized envelopes to two pages and created small scalloped cutouts using the Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge. This being my first wedding guest book, I wanted to ensure there was enough room for all of their guests to sign the book, so I added these cutouts that could easily be signed and added to the envelopes.

Don’t they look like they belong in a Versace ad? Their engagement pictures, taken by Avenue Photo, are incredible. They do amazing work, check them out!

The pink paper that I chose looked textured, which was really nice – loose leaf 12×12 scrapbooking paper, from Michaels.

The grey and ivory paper were also loose leaf 12×12 scrapbooking paper from Michaels.

For the pen, I chose a nice black felt-tipped pen and wrapped twine around it while simultaneously hot-gluing it in place. I created a paper peony for the top, using Martha Stewart’s tutorial and hot-glued it to the top. Then I wrapped a thin piece of white ribbon underneath the flower to hide the connection between the flower and the twine.

This last picture isn’t from their engagement shoot, it’s actually a picture of them at their engagement party, but I wanted to add that in. The striped paper was also part of their invitation. When all of the pages were complete, I took a small white ink pad and ran it over the edges of the chipboard to hide the colour of the chipboard as well as to give it some warmth.

I also printed a picture of the soon-to-be-newlyweds and put it in a frame in case they wanted to use it at their signing table. I gave this to the bride-to-be (now happily married!) at her bridal shower – and she loved it! I’m really happy with the way my DIY Wedding Guest Book turned out!
